The En’owkin Centre is a dynamic institution which puts forth into practice the principles of self-determination and the validation of cultural aspirations and identity. An Indigenous cultural, educational, ecological and creative arts organization, the En’owkin Centre is taking a lead role in the development and implementation of Indigenous knowledge systems, both at the community and international levels.

See the picture of the four poles, situated in the main building of the Centre:
Four poles of the Okanagan historyThe story about the poles is as follows (in short):

Four poles represent four chiefs, who have got an agreement with people about mutual respect. The King Salmon is a big chief of everything which is in the water, and the chief of water itself. The Black Bear is the big chief of all mammals on the surface of the earth. The Big Root is the big chief of everything which is found under the surface of the earth. The Berry is the big chief of all vegetation, berries etc. on the earth. People pay respect to these chiefs, and this is the ground of their sustainability.
